BORN TO I DO IT Craig David makes bride-to-be’s big day
Craig David makes bride-to-be’s big day by agreeing to perform at wedding after she tweeted him every day for a YEAR
Sophie McEvoy said she tried to make the tweets different every day to get the star’s attention
A BRIDE-TO-BE who launched a year-long Twitter campaign to have Craig David sing at her wedding has been left shocked after the singer promised to perform.
Sophie McEvoy wrote Tweets to the Brit singer-songwriter for more than 460 days in a desperate campaign to have her favourite artist attend her big day – with her persistence paying off.
Sophie said she had seen Craig David perform a year ago, tweeting about his spectacular performance – with her message then being favourited by the “What’s Your Flava” singer.
She said: “I tweeted him about how good he was, and he favourited it and something went off in my head – I need him at my wedding.
“I thought ‘that’s it, I’m tweeting him everyday now’.
“Everyone thought I was mental.”
The couple now can’t wait to have the singer at their wedding
The 27-year-old, who got engaged to Richard McCausland in February last year while at the Cayman Islands, said she set an alarm on her phone to remind her to keep up the campaign, which began in July last year.
Sophie, whose favourite Craig David song is Seven Days, said: “Wherever I went, people were like – ‘any luck from Craig David?’
“I didn’t ever think he would come, I thought I might get his attention and we might get a video.
“But I didn’t think in my wildest dreams that he would come.”
The singer was questioned over Sophie’s tweets on radio – and said he would attend her big day
While she tried her best to make the tweets eye-catching, she said she had never expected him to actually attend her Tenerife wedding – set down for two weeks from today.
But that all changed when Craig David appeared on the Stav, Abby and Matt – with Osher radio show on Brisbane’s radio station, hit105, in Australia.
When the Born To Do It star was questioned by the hosts about Sophie’s campaign, he revealed he had seen the office manager’s tweets – and was keen to perform.
The Southampton singer said: “I’ve been trying to keep it a lovely secret… but I will come through and do a little something for you on your wedding day.”
On the radio, stunned Sophie told her idol to “shut up”, saying: “Are you being serious?”
She said her successful campaign had left her fiance Richard impressed, saying: “He used to laugh at me.
“But when we found out, he said ‘I’ll never doubt you again’.”
