Boxing at Pedro castle
Billed as Dalmain Ebanks Champions Invitational it will be showcasing a Cuban team who will be taking on the Cayman Team.
Cayman Islands boxers, Kendall Ebanks and Tafari Ebanks were personally invited to compete in the Elite Continental Championships in Chile. In preparation for the Championships, the boxers travelled to Florida where they were both successful in defeating the current Florida Golden Gloves Champions in their divisions.
Joined by Coach Nayon Anglin, the team travelled to Chile immediately thereafter to compete against the World’s Elite in the Continental Championships. Kendall Ebanks fought an intense toe-to-toe bout with Argentina’s best Alberto Palmetta.. He was unsuccessful with a loss on points of 30:25.Tafari Ebanks fought Mexican Olympic favorite Sergio Chirino of Mexico and was also unsuccessful on an extremely close points decision. Although it was a close match with only three points between the fighters, Tafari realized the opportunities to ensure the decision is his if they meet again.
Despite not making it through to the later stages of this prestigious competition, both fighters are still determined as this was another building block to be Olympic Champions. Tafari said “it was a very tough competition. I am gutted not to have won my fight but this setback has only made me want to work harder and longer in order to reach success”.
The Cuban team Cayman will face at Pedro Castle are called the “#1 World rank powerhouse”.
This bout will absolutely be one of Cayman’s toughest yet.
The Invitational will be showcasing Cayman’s talent from our afterschool programme right through to Tafari and Kendall taking on the best in the World in Cuba.
