Breast Cancer and Wellness
The Breast Cancer Foundation offers support for breast cancer patients in the Cayman Islands
The Breast Cancer Foundation recently announced a new wellness initiative. The catalyst for this initiative was a donation made to the Breast Cancer Foundation by a group called Aimee’s Angels who participated in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk in the Boston in July. In addition to their participation fee, the group raised CI$15,140.96 to donate to the Breast Cancer Foundation. They wanted to ensure that a portion of their funds remain here to help their own community and give back to those in need in Cayman.
Aimee is a breast cancer survivor who had her treatment overseas and was impressed by the attention paid to the total well being of patients. She therefore requested that the donation to the BCF be used specifically for patient wellness here in the Cayman Islands and the board of the Breast Cancer Foundation was in total agreement.
In fact, they were so enthused by the concept that they have decided to match Aimee’s Angels’ donation in order to create a restricted fund for the specific purpose of ‘Wellness’, totaling CI$30,282.00. The Board invited representatives of Aimee’s Angels to join with Heather McLaughlin, the Chief Administrator of the Foundation, to define a programme that will support initiatives to improve the mental and physical well being of local breast cancer sufferers, survivors and their families.
To launch this exciting initiative, the Breast Cancer Foundation is offering free passage for two on the 2014 Royal Caribbean “Thrivers Cruise”sailing out of Ft Lauderdale on April 26th 2014 plus two air tickets to Miami, generously donated by Cayman Airways.
