“UNITED FOR THE CAUSE” is the theme for breast cancer awareness month.

The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens (LCTG) launched its 15^th Breast Cancer Awareness and Education campaign with its annual church service on Sunday, 30 September at 11 a.m. at the Webster Memorial Church in Bodden Town. Rev Rohan Forrester warmly welcomed the contingent of Lions and encouraged all his members to attend the clinics and awareness meetings during the month. Lion President Elva Smith brought greetings on behalf of the club.  Rev Forrester and his wife were given gifts of breast cancer pins. Lion Wendy Wiltshire, MJF, read the 1^st Lesson. The worship service was followed with an Opening Ceremony at Camana Bay on Monday, 1 October at 5:30 p.m.

The month was officially opened with the cutting of the ribbon by Dr. Bogle –Taylor and Leo President, Loshana Lopez-Francis Members of the audience were invited to pin a symbolic pink ribbon in remembrance of all those who have been affected by breast cancer.

At the opening ceremony, Jennifer Ahearn, Chief Officer in the Ministry Health, Environment, Youth, and Sports & Culture extended greetings on behalf of the Government.  She thanked the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens for their continued support in educating the public about breast cancer. She told the audience that during October it was an opportunity to be united for the cause and

told the many survivors who were present at the function and stated that they were the heroes and inspiration for the campaign.  She stated that her Ministry and the entire government will continue to support this very important campaign and encouraged the public to do the same.

Lion President, Elva Smith stated that the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens continues to work passionately in getting the word out in the community about breast cancer prevention and early detection.  She said that the Club, was united for the cause and through its educational programs, awareness meetings and clinics, it will continue to make breast cancer education a priority.

The breast cancer awareness campaign continues to have a positive impact on lives in the Cayman Islands. Over 52,000 persons have benefited from our educational programmes, over 7,500 mammogram vouchers, sponsored by our Club have enabled women to proactively assess their breast health and over 250 individuals have been assisted with health care and other related costs, both at home and overseas.
