Grim discovery was made near the supermarket he owned on the island
Mr Mondesir was described as a ‘kind-hearted’ and ‘affable man’
A British businessman has been shot dead on the Caribbean holiday island of St Lucia.
David Mondesir was found sprawled in a pool of his blood near the supermarket which he owned.
The grim discovery was made by the 50-year-old’s girlfriend, who raised the alarm.
Mr Mondesir, who was from Enfield, north London, had been shot in the head, according to St Lucia News Online.
He was taken to St Jude’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Detectives have launched an investigation on the island, but no arrests were thought to have have been made
Mondesir, who attended Enfield’s Albany Comprehensive School but was originally from St Lucia, was said to have lived on the island for the past five years.
He was gunned down shortly after leaving the supermarket in Vieux Fort which he owned, a police spokesman said.
‘He left London and wanted to offer something to the island of St Lucia which he loved very much,’ said a friend, who declined to be named.
‘His family hails from here and he like many black Britons of Caribbean origin called St Lucia home.
‘He employed several people and was a pillar of the community. He liked to help people.’
One of Mr Mondesir’s cousins, who lives in a nearby village, said his family is ‘devastated’ and ‘in complete shock.’
‘We don’t know why someone would want to kill such an affable and kind-hearted man who did so much for the community.’ said the cousin, who declined to be named.
‘We wish someone will explain to us the reason behind this death. We need answers and for the police to find the killers soon so we can get some closure for our wonderful cousin David.’
Inspector Marcellinus Leonce told News 4orce that officers received a call at around 11pm and upon arrival discovered a male in a pool of blood.
‘We are currently investigating, but can’t say much at this time,’ he told the news channel.
