Busy little potters at the Earth Day Fair

IMG_1644The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park was filled with a delightful bustle last Sunday, as almost 600 guests showed their support for Earth Day!
To celebrate Earth Month this year, the team at the Botanic Park came together with the Tourism Attraction Board to host their first “Fair” for Earth Day. It was a fun filled day that showcased organic food, drinks, tours and activities.
The potting station was a huge success, with Mr. Earl assisting over 60 children to pot a plant! The children got to take their plants home and care for them, for free. This was something that was very important to the organisers of the event:
“It was especially delightful to see the children pot up their plants and take them home. Planting a tree or plant is a simple and great way to show the planet we care. I think we may even have some future gardeners in the making.” — John Lawrus, Manager, Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park.
Couxcoux Oil proudly took home a wheelbarrow of used coconut shells to convert into Garden Fertilizer for the Botanic Park.
“It’s so important that we don’t throw away coconuts, as they have so many wonderful uses. In this case, we will take the used coconut shells, burn them and use them to make Garden Fertilizer for the Botanic Park.” — Pamela Thompson-Couxcoux, Owner Coconut Oil Beauty Products
Cayman Spirits Co. were promoting BYOC (bring your own cup). They also donated used mini barrels to the Botanic Park to make Fairy Gardens for the kids!
Miss Rose Myles was unable to personally attend the event but she still managed to make her traditionally made organic Peppermint Candy Drops, using the old school Cayman method.
There are so many ways that we can reduce, reuse and recycle here in Cayman, and all of the vendors who participated in the Fair are doing something great to help this cause!
The vendors, and the Botanic Park, would love to hear from you on how we can work together to make Cayman a greener and healthier place to live.
A list of the vendors who participated in the Fair were; VIVO restaurant, GreenTech Solar Solutions, Saucha Conscious Living, Willies Fresh Fruit & Juices, Cayman Spirits Co,  Couxcoux Oil Beauty Products, Pixie Facepainting, Games by Kingsley and Miss Rose Myles Peppermint Candy.
