Bye Bye Winter, Hello Cayman
About a week ago, I had the pleasure of escorting a great group of media down to the Cayman Islands. With a focus on active and wellness activities, we traveled to all three islands in search of a little bit of adventure and of course, a respite from the cold.
After stopping for delicious fish tacos on Grand Cayman, we took our first puddle jumper over to Little Cayman. With fewer than 200 people in residence, we felt as if we had our own island to explore during a six-mile bike ride and a kayak trip to gorgeous Owen Island. At night, we attended the Southern Cross Club annual Oscar party, complete with a big screen overlooking the Caribbean Sea.
Early the next day, we made our way to Cayman Brac. We began the day with a full-island tour – our guide, Keino, shared his truly amazing home with us. We walked along the beach to where the blowholes spout, explored many caves, hiked near the lighthouse, and spotted a few of the island’s famed Brown Boobies. Up next was a snorkel trip to the Brac’s best spots, including a shallow dive along the wall, where we saw coral and fish of all sizes and color. We rounded out our time on the Brac with a few minutes relaxing in hammocks with a rum punch.
Back on Grand Cayman, our final excursion was Stingray City. Standing in waist-height warm water, we made friends with rays, saw a lot other marine life, and had a delightful breakfast on a catamaran. After everyone collected their seven years of good luck by kissing a stingray, we were on our way back to winter (but certainly not by our choice!).
