Cabinet meeting on Cayman Brac

Brac Cabinet MinisterswebWhile this week’s Cabinet meeting on Cayman Brac marked the sixth time the island hosted such a gathering, it was the first time for an administration during this four-year period.

The first Governor to hold a Cabinet meeting (Executive Council) in Cayman Brac was Governor Mr. A C E Long in 1971. HE the Governor Mr. John Owens was responsible for holding two Executive Council meetings — on 15 January 1996 and 30 June 1997. Cabinet meetings were held on 23 August 2005 under Governor Bruce Dinwiddy and again on 2 April 2008 under Governor Stuart Jack.

Cabinet members HE Governor Mr. Duncan Taylor, Premier and Minister for Finance, District Administration, Works, Lands and Agriculture Honourable Juliana O’Connor-Connolly,JP Deputy Premier and Minister of Education Honourable Rolston Anglin,Minister of Health Honourable Mark Scotland, Minister of Tourism Honourable Cline Glidden, Minister of Community Affairs Honourable Dwayne Seymour,Deputy Governor Honourable Franz Manderson, Attorney General Honourable Sam Bulgin, Cabinet Secretary Mr. Orrett Connor and Cabinet Secretary Designate Mr. Samuel Rose met with the members of uniformed services on Cayman Brac and then members of the public on Monday evening at the Aston Rutty Centre.On Tuesday, Cabinet members toured the Faith Hospital and Kirkconnell Community Care Centre before going to District Administration for the official Cabinet meeting and meeting with staff there as well..

After taking a brief lunch break, Cabinet members resumed their tour of the island by visiting all four schools – Spot Bay Primary and the Creek Primary, Layman E Scott Sr. High School and West End Primary School. The visits concluded at the Seaman’s Hall , where Cabinet was met by Capt. Arlin Tatum and Capt Ivan Whittaker. Cabinet members enjoyed meeting with the residents of the Brac and listened intently to issues to the various matters relating the Sister Islands.

Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly said she was pleased that her colleagues were able to meet with the so many persons and to listen to their issues and concerns. “I am confident that together we can continue to build these wonderful islands we all call home, “she said.

The Governor also welcomed the opportunity to visit the Brac. “This was a timely and important meeting for the new Cabinet to visit Cayman Brac and to assure all residents that the Government is at work on their behalf.

“I was delighted to travel to the Brac on Monday and Tuesday this week. I welcome the initiative of holding a Cabinet meeting in the Brac. This provided an excellent opportunity to meet a wide cross section of residents in the Brac and to discuss issues of importance to them. I also much enjoyed meeting the residents at the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre and students at all four schools in the Brac.”
