CACSO and CANOC to meet in Cayman

Central American and Caribbean Sports Organisation (CACSO) and the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) will be meeting at the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort on West Bay Road, from 25 – 29 October.

130 delegates from 32 countries are expected to be here and both organisations will have general assemblies and associated meetings.

Cayman Islands Premier, McKeeva Bush and Minister for Sports, Mark Scotland, will address the general assemblies.

The meetings will be held under the auspices of the Cayman Islands Olympic Committee (CIOC). The major sponsor is the Cayman Islands Government through the Ministry of Health, Environment, Youth, Sports and Culture.

Cayman Islands Olympic Committee president Donald McLean said: “The CIOC is extremely grateful for the assistance of the Ministry of Sports, Immigration Department, the Protocol Office, Department of Tourism and the Airports Authority in hosting these important regional meetings.

“This is an excellent example of the Government and the Olympic Committee working together for the benefit of sports. The CIOC would also like to thank the Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort and Tortuga Rum Company for their kind assistance.”

Regional delegates from Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, British Virgin Islands, United States Virgin Islands, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela will attend. Also in attendance will be delegates from countries in the region without Olympic committees, namely Anguilla, Curacao, Montserrat and Turks and Caicos.

Representatives from the Games Organising Committees will also attend and make presentations. They are Vera Cruz of Mexico who will host the 2014 Central Americas and Caribbean Games, delegates from Toronto, Canada which will host the 2015 Pan American Games, Guatemala City, Guatemala, who have bid for the 2018 Central Americas and Caribbean Games and delegates from Nanjing, China which hosts the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games.
