PRESS RELEASE – Are our old buildings relevant to present generations?

Is there any real benefit to keeping them? These and other topics will form the basis for discussion when the Saint Lucia National Trust stages its 3rd annual Trust Pioneers Lecture on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5:45 p.m. at the Palm Haven Hotel Conference Room, Rodney Bay. Held in observance of the organization’s 41st anniversary, this event aims to raise the level of awareness of the Trust’s role in heritage conservation by providing a platform for individuals from all sectors of society to engage in stimulating and comprehensive discussion on heritage related issues.

The keynote address will be delivered by Mrs. Rudylynn De Four Roberts, a registered architect and Past President of Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects. Having an affinity for historic preservation, Mrs. De Four Roberts has devoted much of her life to restoring historic buildings and lobbying for the preservation of the built heritage in her homeland. A founding member and President of Citizens for Conservation, she was actively involved in researching and drafting of the National Trust Act of Trinidad and Tobago and served on that executive board for the first two years. As the President of Trinidad and Tobago National Committee of the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) she has represented her country at several conferences and symposia, delivering lectures and networking for the heritage preservation movement. Her presentation will focus on the theme, “Caribbean Architectural Heritage: identity, reality and future opportunities.”

According to the Trust’s Director, Bishnu Tulsie, “We encourage the public to attend this lecture and lend their voice to the discussion surrounding the preservation of our ‘old architectural buildings’ before they form a disappearing act on our landscape”.
