Interviewing the Caribbean—Winter 2019
Interviewing the Caribbean (IC)—seeks poems, stories, creative non-fiction, and visual art in all media that celebrate Caribbean life. Caribbean artists at home and in the Diaspora are invited to participate.
Topic for Winter 2019: Caribbean Children’s Literature/The Future of Caribbean Children
What are the challenges/opportunities of being a publisher/writer of Caribbean children’s literature? What are the stories that are not being told? How does race and class impact children’s access to Caribbean literature? Tell us about quality Caribbean children’s literature that’s not widely known.
What are the fears and dreams of Caribbean children? Do they feel honoured? Do they feel as if they are the future? What legacies are we passing on to them? What are your childhood memories? We want to hear the stories, the nice ones, painful, vexed and the shamed. Send us your poems, stories, interviews, ditties and inquiries. Send us images of and for children. We want to hear from children too, encourage them to submit.
Send work as an MS Word document or images as a TIF, 300 dpi (or higher) resolution to:[email protected]
Submit by September 20, 2019 to be included in the Winter 2019 issue. If your work is selected forpublication, the editors will email you interview questions by early October. Please include a 5-line bio (NO MORE), and a photo of contributor (TIF/300 resolution).
Poetry, Fiction, Articles
All writing for IC should be double-spaced with one-inch margins in a Word (.doc) file. For poetry, submit 3-5 poems in a single document. For all other writing you may submit up to 2,500 words.
Visual Art (including photography)
All images for IC should be submitted in TIF format (300 dpi or higher). You may submit 3-6 TIFs.
We only accept online submissions. Only submit manuscripts that have not been published anywhere – including your personal website, blog, or social media.
IC will retain the rights to your work for 90 days after publication, after which rights revert to you. If the work you publish with us is used in the future in a collection or elsewhere, we would appreciate an acknowledgment as is customary. We try to respond as quickly as possible, but in general, allow 90 days.
