Caribbean Christmas in Niagara
Parang event bringing Caribbean Christmas to Niagara
The St. Catherines Standard From Welland Tribune
Parang in Niagara — an event that brings Christmas and the Caribbean together here — is scheduled for Dec. 21 at a St. Catharines winery.
Known as Trinidad’s Christmas carol, parang is a popular folk music brought to Trinidad and Tobago decades ago by migrants from Venezuela and Colombia.
The St. Catharines and Regional Niagara Twinning Association is sponsoring the night, which will feature Christmas rhythms by Los Amigos Parang Band and Canadian Calypso Monarch.
Also on hand will be DJ Trinity, Harmony Music and the PK Hummingbird Steel Band. There will be door prizes and traditional Caribbean food and beverages.
The twinning association celebrates relations between the twin cities St. Catharines and Port of Spain, in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
The event starts at 7 p.m. at Hernder Estate Wines, 1607 Eighth Avenue Louth in St. Catharines. For more information, phone 905-321-9530.
