Caribbean ranked by tourism (Cayman Islands ranked #10)
A new study has ranked the islands of the Caribbean by most quality tourism experience.
Conducted by international travel and tourism experts Resonance Consultancy, the 2016 Caribbean Tourism Quality Index was released on June 2nd during New York’s “Caribbean Week”.
The report measured tourism supply, performance, and competitiveness in 28 destinations across the Caribbean. Other points measured include lodging, safety, an ease of flight connectivity.
The report says the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cuba provide the overall most quality experiences in the Caribbean. The Dominican Republic also holds the top spot for entertainment, lodging and connectivity, and for reporting the greatest number of visitors. Cuba ranked third by gaining an increase of American tourists following President Obama’s historic visit. The Bahamas and Jamaica ranked 4th and 5th respectively, swapping places from last year’s report.
In a separate list, Saint Martin ranked #1 as having the most quality experiences per 100,000 visitors in six areas – museums, shopping, nightlife, amusements, outdoors and restaurants. St. Vincent & The Grenadines came second and Anguilla third. Also making the list were Barbados, Grenada, and Martinique.
With both Absolute Ranking and Indexed Ranking, Puerto Rico, Barbados and Guadeloupe are the only three Caribbean destinations to appear on both top 10 lists, with Puerto Rico having the highest performing tourism experiences in both rankings.
