If you’re looking for an affordable beach vacation this summer, the Caribbean may be the answer. NY1’s Valarie D’Elia filed the following report.

Yes, summer is hurricane season in the tropics, and you can score a deal—but there are those who dispute that notion as simply a cheap shot.

“Some people think that in the summer months the prices go down because we are concerned about storms, that’s so wrong, we simply have a lot of competition in the summer, we have all of Europe, Canada and the United States which are all summer destinations,” says Karolin Troubetzkoy of the Jade Mountain Resort in St. Lucia.

Rates in the Caribbean during the summer months can be wildly discounted, with lots of value added.

British Virgin Islands, for example, is pushing out the perks with free nights, car rentals, resort credits and gratis excursions.

On the A-list island of Anguilla, ‘A’ means affordable, especially at the Anacaona boutique hotel, which among other freebies, offers complimentary hard and soft drinks on seven night stays for two through June.

In the Cayman Islands, visitors get a fifth night free at participating hotels and some also offer $100 resort credits.

The ‘Only in Cayman’ savings card, offers up discounts on tours, trips, restaurants and attractions for travel through September.

The cost of romance drops by 65 percent at Sandals Resorts, with bonuses such as free nights, air credits and a complimentary couples massage, depending on the length of stay and property.

Not only are the islands on sale, but the party is still hot, hot, hot. Especially on the island of Antigua, four hour’s flight time from New York City, which is celebrating its 55th Carnival at the end of July.

“Very colorful, lots of floats and troupes, and costumes, the food is amazing. Of course we have our local rums,” says Derede Hitlock of Barbud Tourism.
