Caribbean roots rapper could face up to one year in jail
News Americas, WASHINGTON, D.C., Tues. Oct. 2, 2018: Caribbean roots rapper, Cardi B, could be looking at jail time if found guilty of two misdemeanors counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of assault, two attorneys claim.
Their claim to HollywoodLife came hours after the Dominican Republic and Trinidad-roots, Bronx-born stripper turned rapper, turned herself in to the 109 Precinct in Flushing, Queens, NY after her reported involvement in a violent strip club attack in August.
The musician, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, allegedly was at the Angels Strip Club in Flushing, New York on August 29th and was “throwing chairs, bottles and hookahs [smoking pipes] in the club at 3 a.m.”
Two bartenders were assaulted, a NYPD spokesman said.
Cardi B, 25, received what’s called a Desk Appearance Ticket yesterday and will have to was given an Oct. 29th date to return to court and face the charges.
Lawyers told Hollywoodlife that the misdemeanor (‘A’) is usually punished with up to one year behind bars if a defendant is convicted.
Cardi B’s charge comes weeks after she was left with a welt on her head after she was involved in an altercation with Trinidad-born rapper, Nicki Minaj, at a New York Fashion Week party.
Reports indicate Minaj was finishing up a conversation with someone when Cardi B tried to attack her, but Minaj’s security guards intervened.
Cardi B reportedly threw her shoe at Minaj and tried to attack Minaj because she thought the “Chun-Li” rapper had made fun of her daughter. Minaj responded on her Queen Radio show and said, “I would never ridicule anyone’s child … I would never talk about anyone’s child or parenting … These lies are ridiculous.”
Almánzar was in The Bronx to a Dominican father and Trinidadian mother. She was raised in the Highbridge neighborhood of the South Bronx and spent much time at her paternal grandmother’s home in Washington Heights, which she credits with giving her “such a thick […] accent.”
As a youth, Cardi B was a member of the Bloods, and has said she was a gang member since the age of 16.
Ironically, Cardi B has mentioned her “strong relationship” with God in interviews, often saying that she directly communicates with God.
