Carmelita “The Jet” Jeter to star in Cayman Invitational
The Cayman Invitational is one of the biggest athletic track meets of its kind in the Caribbean, and even though it is only in its second year, it has quickly established itself as a high level track meet that attracts the very best athletes to compete.
Carmelita Jeter, known as “The Jet” for her lightning speed on the track, will be making her second appearance at the event, having led the female line-up of the world’s top athletes who participated in the first ever Cayman Invitational last year.
Ms Jeter’s career includes an impressive list of accolades. At the 2009 Berlin World Championships, she placed third. In 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea, she took home two gold medals in the 100m and the 4 x 100m relay and silver medal in the 200m. At the 2012 London Olympic Games, Jeter won gold in the 4 x 100m relay, setting a new world record, silver in the 100m and bronze in the 200m.
The Cayman Invitational is organised by Meet Director Cydonie Mothersill-Stephens of KyStar Athletics and will consist of 12 track and two field events, featuring over eighty professional track athletes.
Ms Jeter says she is delighted to be able to return to Cayman and compete again this year.
“I am very excited to return to the Cayman Invitational,” she confirms. “I really enjoyed being part of the inaugural meet that took place last year. I was very proud of my friend and Meet Director Cydonie Mothersill-Stephens, for the great job that she and her staff did putting it together. They put on a first class competition and treated everybody in a very welcoming way.”
While there are still opportunities for sponsorship of this exciting event, the following organisations have already pledged their support: CI Government – Office of the Premier (Platinum Sponsor); Cayman Airways, Dart, VTB (all Gold Sponsors); LIME, Puma, Hot 104.1FM, Tower (all Silver Sponsors) and the Caymanian Compass, National Building Society, Water Authority, Western Union and Casa Luna (all Bronze Sponsors).
