The event which is supported by community groups including The National Trust, CCMI, Saved the Cove, Save Barkers, Save Cayman and CPR Cayman, is an opportunity for the community to come together to share, learn, engage and collectively visualize the future we hope to see for our Islands Participating groups will be presenting on a range of topics including sustainable development, tourism, social wellbeing and community development, and environmental conservation efforts and legislation.
CPR Cayman spokesperson and one of the event organizers Katrina Jurn, explained the impetus for Cayman 2020: ‘The ground swell of support and concerns expressed from various sectors of the Caymanian community is at the heart of this event and the People’s Initiated Referendum. There are many stakeholders who want to protect our country and are concerned about how decisions are being made. The various topical issues impacting us all today have the potential to negatively impact current and future generations in a myriad of ways. These concerns include environmental, socio-economic and long term financial concerns.
The lack of strategic long term planning and community engagement continues to drive the concerns of many citizens. We understand the need for unity as we all want to live in a Cayman that is safe, clean, environmentally protected and demonstrates stability, participatory democracy, sound financial management and good governance. Cayman 2020 we hope will be the start of a new era of greater community involvement in building a better Cayman for all citizens and residents.’
Admission is free and the event is open to the general public.
