Cayman: 2024 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition begins under heavy skies

The 2024 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition began this past Friday with a number games being abandoned due to heavy rains, which ironically arrived around the time the first ball in the new season was bowled. Despite the weather, some games went ahead.

The 2024 competition runs from April to June with 13 participating schools that are divided into two
zones (Zone A and B) in the girls’ and boys’ leagues. Games are 12 overs with each bowler restricted to
bowling three overs. Field sizes are roughly half a football field and teams consist of 11 players. Games
are played on Friday afternoons starting at noon (girls) and 1:00 p.m. (boys) at various primary school
venues.

Cayman Prep A are defending girls’ and boys’ league champions.

The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education
Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Cricket Association and sponsored by Caribbean
Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC).

Schools in Zone A in the girls’ and boys’ league include Cayman Academy, Cayman Prep B, Edna Moyle
Primary, East End Primary, Prospect Primary, Red Bay Primary and newcomers Island Primary. Zone B in
the girls’ and boys’ league consists of Cayman International School (CIS), Cayman Prep A, Marie Martin
Primary (formerly George Town Primary), Theoline L. McCoy Primary, Joanna Clarke Primary, Sir John A.
Cumber Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic.

Results from the first day of competition included:

Zone A Girls Cayman Academy vs. Red Bay Primary (to be rescheduled), Edna Moyle Primary vs. Prospect Primary
was abandoned due to rain (draw recorded) and Cayman Prep B vs. Island Primary (to be rescheduled).
East End Primary was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Girls:
St. Ignatius Catholic defeated CIS 34 runs to 32 runs, Marie Martin vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary was
abandoned due to rain (draw recorded) and Joanna Clarke vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary is to be
rescheduled. Cayman Prep A was not scheduled to play.

Zone A Boys:
Red Bay Primary beat Cayman Academy 55 runs to 54 runs, Prospect Primary outlasted Edna Moyle
Primary 62 runs to 61 runs and Cayman Prep B vs. Island Primary is to be rescheduled. East End Primary
was not scheduled to play.

Zone B Boys:
St. Ignatius Catholic defeated CIS 63 runs to 62 runs, Marie Martin Primary vs. Sir John A. Cumber
Primary was abandoned due to rain (draw recorded) and Joanna Clarke vs. Theoline L. McCoy Primary is
to be rescheduled. Cayman Prep A was not scheduled to play.

Round 2 of the 2024 season continues this Friday, April 19 with a full schedule of games including:
Zone A Girls and Boys: East End Primary vs. Red Bay Primary (at Theoline L. McCoy Primary), Edna
Moyle Primary vs. Cayman Academy (at Edna Moyle Primary) and Island Primary vs. Prospect Primary (at
Prospect Primary). Cayman Prep B is not scheduled to play.
Zone B Girls and Boys: Marie Martin Primary vs. St. Ignatius Catholic (at the Annex Field), Joanna Clarke
Primary vs. CIS (at the Camana Bay Field) and Cayman Prep A vs. Sir John A. Cumber Primary (at Sir John A. Cumber Primary). Theoline L. McCoy is not scheduled to play

Parents and supporters are encouraged to come out and cheer on our young cricketers.

Defending champions Cayman Prep A (batting) are out to defend their title.
