Cayman: Addison Kelly Butterfly 5K | Saturday, 3 February
The family of Addison Kelly, would like to invite you to join us for the 2nd annual Addison Kelly Butterfly 5K which takes place this Saturday, 3 February starting at 6:30am on The Paseo in Camana Bay. At the time of writing almost 900 persons have registered for the event. Registration is still open at this link until midnight tonight, after which time people can then register in person at Camana Bay on The Paseo on Thursday, 1 February (4pm to 7pm), Friday, 2 February (9am to 6pm) and on the morning of the event (starting at 5:30am).
All proceeds from the event will go to the Addison Kelly Memorial Scholarship fund which is administered by the Alex Panton Foundation. The Addison Kelly Memorial Scholarship has been created in the memory of Caymanian teenager Addison Kelly who lost her life to suicide on 8 February 2022 at the age of 16. Her family has established the fund to help increase the mental health support services and resources that are available on island and put more qualified Caymanians in the field.
The scholarship offers CI$25,000 per annum for up to 4 years for Caymanians to pursue post-graduate studies in the fields of psychology, psychiatry or psychotherapy. It will be awarded every two years (biennially) and recipients must return to work in Cayman for the number of years for which the scholarship was given.
Last year’s event raised almost $100,000, and the first scholarship was awarded to Caymanian Jamara Bodden. Some of the funds will also be used to provide mental health first aid training to members of the community, such as teachers, church leaders, first responders and others who may engage with young people with mental health challenges.
We hope you’ll join us for what will be a lovely morning honouring a precious life.
