Cayman: April Cummins on the passing of Mike Martin Sunday 23 June 2024 – Candlelight vigil Thu June 27
From April Cummings
I usually have lots of words. But saying goodbye to Mike Martin is not in my vocabulary. He changed our lives and the lives of people and Cayman through Cayman 27 and so many other ways. He was the grumpiest mentor, but incredibly kind. He showed up when we were searching for my brother with what seemed like 3 million fast food bags to make sure that everybody was getting fed. And when I started to sink into a depression that made it hard to get out of bed, he knew me well enough to call me and say it’s time to come back to work. He passed away this morning and we are heartbroken. But Mike would still have insisted we get up, tidy up, clean our desks and get back to work.
From Colin Wilson
My wife Joan and I brought Mike Martin to CITN/Cayman 27 just as he was leaving Grand Cayman after parting ways with his first outing here at CiTV just after we first went on the air.
Without Mike at the helm there is no doubt in my mind the broadcast station would not have been operating for as long as it did.
Jo and I echo everything that April said above. We are both much saddened but his legacy goes on in all those he touched and helped in his broadcast media field. He stayed in touch with Jo and I long after we departed the broadcast station we created and he turned into a professional organization.
We give sincere condolences to his lovely wife, Beryl and his family.
