Cayman: Bank gives extra to NCVO this year

Increase will feed 92 children in need

George Town, Cayman Islands, 19 June 2020 – The annual National Council of Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) telethon got an extra boost this year which will feed approximately 92 children per day.

Due to the restrictions on public gatherings, the ‘HeARTS from Home’ online edition featured a host of local talent, while appealing to the community for donations to maintain and operate the organization, which is one of Cayman’s longest running charities.

Regional bank CIBC FirstCaribbean, a regular supporter of the umbrella organisation, upped its usual donation of KYD $3,000 to KYD $5,000 this year to help cushion the impact of Covid-19 on the charity.

Chief Executive Officer of the NCVO Miriam Foster said, “We are immensely appreciative of CIBC’s continued support over the years. This year, we are especially thankful for their willingness to increase their donation due to the increased financial hardships the NCVO is facing during this pandemic, while still providing care for over 92 children in the community. These funds will aid in housing, feeding, or educating vulnerable children and families in Cayman.”

Mark, McIntyre Managing Director for the bank’s Cayman Operating Company, said “CIBC FirstCaribbean has been one of the NCVO’s most consistent and reliable supporters for many years, including our partnership with the Telethon which dates back to as early as 2007. We are thankful that the bank can be a part of an event that highlights Cayman’s local talent within the arts and raises funds that benefit all the NCVO’s children’s programmes including the Jack and Jill Nursery and Early Learning Centre along with Miss Nadine’s Pre-School.”

The dedicated team of NCVO volunteers have willingly given time and resources to provide care, education and well-being to children and families in need of support in the Cayman Islands.
