Dubai’s fifth Muslim-Christian Dialogue, a biennial gathering hosted by students, is expected to draw its largest audience in 10 years this weekend.

The last event in 2011 drew more than 600 students, with organisers hoping to best that — a far cry from the 120 at the inaugural event in 2005.

International theologians include a renowned Muslim preacher from Canada, Imam Shabir Ally, and a Baptist pastor from the Cayman Islands, Thabiti Anyabwile, who will discuss the question of forgiveness from God.

The dialogue series grew out of an appreciation for the UAE’s “singular commitment to religious tolerance and interfaith dialogue”, organisers said in a press release.

“(It) is intended to further the principles of brotherhood, moderation and harmonious coexistence championed by the nation’s leadership.”

Free and open to the public, the dialogue will be held at the Knowledge Village Auditorium from 7.30pm tomorrow (Sun 19).
