Cayman: Barracuda attack on elderly woman
The Department of Environment have reported that an elderly woman was swimming in the area of Colonial Club Condos along 7 Mile Beach this morning when she was attacked and bitten around the centre of her right arm by a fish, which appears to have been a barracuda.
The DoE Conservation Office who responded, noticed several schools of sprats and some feeding activity in the water at the location.
The DOE is reminding the public to be aware of small baitfish jumping out of the water when swimming as this is usually an indication of feeding activity nearby.
Swimmers are also urged to remain calm, wear non reflective items, and swim smoothly in waters containing barracudas.
