Cayman, Bermuda shine at Island Games

GOTLAND, Sweden – The Cayman Islands claimed seven gold medals and finished 10th – four places above regional rivals Bermuda – in the 17th biennial Island Games here recently.

Cayman picked up a total of 25 medals – seven gold, 10 silver and eight bronze – to Bermuda’s 22, which included two gold, 13 silver and seven bronze.
Jamal Walton won two individual gold for Cayman, taking the men’s 200 and 400 meters.
There were also individual gold medals for Kemar Hyman (men’s 100 meters), Alexander Pascal (men’s javelin) and Carl Morgan (men’s triple jump. The men’s 4×100 meters relay team, including Hyman, Morgan and Walton, plus the men’s basketball team also struck gold.
Bermuda’s two gold medals came in gymnastics and cycling. Chantae Wilson won the women’s FIG individual asymmetric bars, while the women’s cycling team won the town center criterium.
The Isle of Man topped the medal table with 101, including 39 gold.
