Cayman Brac sea swim
The annual 800-metre sea swim was on held on Cayman Brac on Saturday, 20 April. Hosted by the Sister Islands Swim Club and sponsored by CNB, Moses Kirkconnell, Jackson Enterprises, Progressive Distributors, Complex Services, Frank Flowers, and CIASA, the event drew local swimmers along with fellow open water enthusiasts and supporters from Grand Cayman.
The day was sunny with the usual strong current. Twenty-nine swimmers registered for the event with 28 crossing the finish line. Brandon Williams was the overall race winner with a time of 14’ 14.2” seconds.
Second place went to Bill McFarland and in third place was Michael Lockwood. The first male and female residents from Cayman Brac to cross the finish line were Thomas Scott and Roxanne Boonstra, who won a round trip ticket and entry into the Flowers One Mile Sea Swim on 15 June. These tickets were donated by Mr Frank Flowers.
The Sister Islands Swim Club thanked its sponsors and the many volunteer groups and individuals that make this yearly event possible. In particular, the event could not happened without the help of Reef Divers, who set up the course and provide plenty of “on the water” support during the event each year. The club also thanked Public Works Department, the EMS services, the Marine Enforcement Officers, the DOE, Cayman News Services and CNS Classifieds, Sister Islands Administration, Carib Sands, Market Place and Popo Jebs and Cayman First for their kind sponsorship of swimming on Cayman Brac.
