Appleby Under 18 high school football champions CIS

Cayman International School (CIS) secured a double championship this week as the Under 18 boys
defeated St. Ignatius Catholic High School 6-0 on Monday, December 11 to complete an undefeated
season and take the Appleby Under 18 Boys’ title back from 2022 champions Clifton Hunter High
School (CHHS).

On Friday, December 8, the CIS Blue girls secured the Appleby Under 18 Girls’ championship with a
7-1 win over their counterparts CIS White to lift the girls trophy for the second time in four years.

With wins over CHHS (3-1), Cayman Prep (2-0), John Gray High School (2-1), Triple C (6-0), CIS 2
(6-0) and Cayman Academy (4-0), amassing 29 goals in total while conceding only two, the coveted
Appleby Under 18 Boys’ Cup will be finding a new home for the year at CIS.

CHHS finished as runners-up only three points behind the champions.

In the girls division, CIS Blue’s Under 18 title win came down to the final game against their class
mates CIS White. A win would secure the title while a draw would mean a final match-up with rivals
Cayman Prep, who only the week before dropped vital points against CIS White.

CIS White made a game of it during the early stages but CIS Blue showed their ‘true championship
colours’, running away with the win in the second half to capture the coveted Appleby Cup.

CIS Blue’s journey to securing the title included wins over St. Ignatius Catholic (3-1), JGHS (6-0), CIS
White (7-1) and CHHS (3-0) and a draw with Cayman Prep (3-3) scoring 22 goals and conceding
five.

Cayman Prep finished as runners-up only two points behind the champions.
On hand for both presentations following the respective final games was Appleby (Cayman)
representative Ben Woolf who thanked the players and coaches for their dedication and
commitment to excellence throughout the 2023 season.
