Deputy Governor & Head of the Civil Service the Hon. Franz Manderson, joined by members of the Civil Service senior leadership team, recently planted a mahogany tree at the Government Administration Building in memory of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The mahogany tree was grown from seed by the Department of Agriculture as part of the Ministry of Sustainability & Climate Resiliency’s national tree planting initiative.

Mr. Manderson said the tree planting event is one of several tributes the Cayman Islands Civil Service has offered to Her Late Majesty during the National Mourning Period, including a wreath laying ceremony on the front steps of the Government Administration Building, illuminating the Government Administration Building and the Clock Tower in George Town with blue light, and commemorative flyovers by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service and Mosquito Research Control Unit.

“The Cayman Islands Civil Service is proud to offer these tributes as testament to our sincere affection for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We look forward to continuing to demonstrate our abiding respect for the monarchy under the reign of His Majesty King Charles III,” he said. “As this young tree continues to grow and thrive, I hope it will serve as an enduring testament to The Late Queen’s legacy of service.”
