Cayman: Coco Fest supports local charity
[Funds raised for Meals on Wheels]
Savannah, Grand Cayman, February 14, 2019 – Hundreds of people wandered their way through the seven-acre property of Pedro St. James on Saturday, 8th February for the fifth annual Coco Fest. The coconut festival celebrates the ingenuity of local cottage industry businesses while raising funds for a dual purpose; to assist in the preservation of the Great House and to give back to a local charity.
Pedro
St. James Operations Manager Deborah Bodden was delighted with the
turn out. “We saw a high level of support for our national
historical site and this year’s chosen charity Meals on Wheels. The
event raised a combined $2,673.00, with $1 from each paid admission,
$300 from drinks sales of 1780 Rum and
coconut water donated by Cayman Spirits Company and Grace Coconut
Water, raffle ticket sales and additional donations,” she said.
For the second consecutive year, Fidelity Bank Cayman Ltd. signed on as the main sponsor in a show of support to local companies and artisans. “As one of the leading indigenous banks in the Cayman Islands, we are happy to embrace the Caymanian culture, and by extension, support donations to the Meals on Wheels initiative. Fidelity sees this as a great opportunity to contribute to the wider community which we serve,” said Fidelity Bank Senior Business Analyst, Linval Johnson.
Meals on Wheels staff, board members and volunteers were out in full force at the event and are grateful for the kind reception. “On all levels Coco Fest was a blessing to Meals on Wheels, we were indeed able to enroll delivery volunteers as well as Coin Drive volunteers,” expressed Meals on Wheels General Manager Jennifer West.
“A heartfelt thanks to Pedro [St. James], Fidelity Bank and the Tourism Attraction Board for hosting such an amazing, cultural event and for supporting our cause at the same time,” added Ms. West.
Other sponsors include Bob 94.9 FM, Pepsi, Crown Events, Vigoro Nursery and The Security Centre. “We want to also thank the RCIPS, Heather Bodden and the CI Baptist Church for their assistance with additional parking and support,” commented Mrs. Bodden.
