Cayman: Compendium of Statistics 2023 Released

The Cayman Islands Compendium of Statistics 2023, released by the Economics and Statistics Office, is a comprehensive collection of statistics from various public and private sector data sources covering population, demographics, social and living conditions, the economy, finance, and development; the environment; and information and communication technology. 

The country’s 2023 population estimate was 84,738, reflecting a growth rate of 3.9 percent (3,192 persons) over the 2022 figure.

In social services, the total number of families who received assistance from the Needs Assessment Unit increased in 2023 to 2,662, compared to 2,591 in 2022. Families assisted with burial expenses rose to 66, while families who received assistance with their rent also rose to 490 from 440 in 2022 and 485 in 2021. Similarly, the number of families who received help with their electricity bills increased from 133 in 2022 to 197 in 2023. 

The number of persons receiving poor relief assistance fell slightly to 1,180, down 3.3 percent from 1,219 in 2022. However, aid with school uniforms, pre-school assistance, indigent medical care, and optical care increased relative to the previous year.

In environmental health, the total recorded waste managed at the landfills was 131 211 tons. The total waste incinerated during the year was 295 tons, which was lower by 10.9 percent compared to the incinerated waste of 407 tons in 2022.
