Cayman: Coronavirus Update 24 March 2020 – 1st case of suspected community transmission

- The Cayman Islands has its first case of suspected community transmission of COVID-19, as officials reported one positive result today that did not appear to be linked back to travel history.
- The test result is pending confirmation from CARPHA but the Public Health Department has already initiated isolation of the patient and their household as well as contact tracing.
- CMO Dr John Lee also noted a further 14 negative results, and noted that 10% of negative results as well as all positive results are sent to CARPHA for review.

- Curfew began at 7pm tonight and will continue until 5am tomorrow. Non-essential members of the public are required to remain at home between these hours. Increased police patrols will enforce the measure.

- A shelter in place order encouraging all non-essential workers to stay in their homes or in their yards throughout the day, except for urgent reasons, will be clarified tomorrow.
- Civil Service has shut down large parts of its non-essential operations and allowed staff to work from home to comply with Government required actions.
- Anyone with an urgent and compassionate need to travel during the airport closure may call a new emergency travel hotline at 244-3333, Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.
- At funerals 10 family members plus pall bearers plus officiating minister will be allowed.
