Cayman: COVID-19 Update 18 October 2021, 53 NEW Positives, 110,533 vaccinations given
The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, reports that as of 8am Monday, 18 October, there have been 1,662 PCR tests since the last report on Friday, 15 October.
From these, there were 53 positive tests, comprising 11 positive tests in travellers and 42 positive tests from the community, 19 of which were in children.
The community rate is in line with the daily rate from the last two weeks and of course represents three days’ testing.
Genomic sequencing of eleven samples with higher viral loads of SARS-CoV-2, reported on Saturday morning, showed that all eleven had the delta variant. This was distributed in four travellers and seven people from the community (including five children).
To date, there have been 110,533 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 55,887 (79 percent of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 53,530 (75 percent) have completed the two-dose course. Additionally, 1,136 (representing six percent of those over the age of 50) have had a third, or booster, dose.
