Cayman: COVID-19 Update – Thursday, 16 December, 26 NEW Positives, 130,410 vaccinations given

Grand Cayman – On Thursday, 16 December Chief Medical Officer (Interim) Dr. Autilia Newton reported that 782 PCR tests were conducted from midnight 14 December to midnight 15 December. The Public Health Department reported an additional 26 positive results from tests, three in travellers and 23 from the community.

These results left the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Cayman Islands at 3,426, as of midnight on 15 December. The total number of cases recorded since the start of the pandemic stood at 8,062 at the same time.

In addition, 16 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised in the Cayman Islands as at midnight on Wednesday.

The Public Health Department also confirmed that on Wednesday, 15 December the total positive lateral flow tests since the introduction of the lateral flow test programme in the Cayman Islands, reached 2116.  These are included in the total positive numbers given above.

On Thursday 16 December, Faith Hospital reported that there was one positive result in the Sister Islands which was found in a traveller. To date, there have been 121 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 120 having recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 63 were fully vaccinated, six were partially vaccinated, and 52 were unvaccinated.

On Wednesday, 15 December, there had been 130,410 COVID-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 58,569 people (82% of 71,106) had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile 56,860 individuals (80%) had completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 14,981 people (representing 21% of the total population) had received a third or booster dose up to that point.
