Cayman: Dart’s Growing Communities presents Summer in Dart

Children and families gathered at the Dart Park amphitheatre for Carols in the Park in December 2023.

Free, family-friendly events throughout July and August

Families across Grand Cayman are invited to enjoy free, family-friendly activities taking place every Thursday and Saturday at the Dart Park amphitheatre beginning 4 July and ending 17 August.

Every Thursday at 5 p.m. Baobob Education will host Sunset Story Time. Following the story, Baobob’s reading professionals will guide the children through a craft or activity themed around the books.

“We are excited to partner with Dart’s Growing Communities in hosting Sunset Story Time this summer,” said Tatum Acutt, a reading and curriculum specialist and owner of Baobob Education. “Our interactive story time is designed to spark an interest in books and encourage families to keep reading together at home. Children can experience a huge ‘summer slide’ during the long break, sometimes losing up to six months of their learning progress. After each read aloud, there will be a fun activity or craft, showing that there is more to a story than just reading the book, further building interest and comprehension skills.

Sunset Story Time begins 4 July with the last session on 8 August.

On Saturdays, the community is invited to Singalong Saturdays with Miss Izzy (Isadora Ferrao) for a singalong in the sunshine where attendees can dance, clap, sing or just enjoy a medley of children’s hits.

“Singing brings children together and builds a sense of community which is so important for their social and psychological development,” said Miss Izzy. “I’m looking forward to getting everyone together this summer as singing together is a powerful way to foster connectedness and it encourages children to express themselves emotionally and creatively.”

Singalong Saturdays begin 6 July with the last session on 17 August.

“Summer in Dart Park will give young readers, singers and their families an opportunity to connect with their community and each other in a natural setting” said Dart Asset and Community Portfolio Manager Dominic Ross. “We hope that the engaging activities with Baobob Education and Miss Izzy inspire families to return each week and come early or stay late to enjoy a picnic or the playground with new friends.”
