CIGOUK prepares for Cayman Day in the UK

On Saturday, 17 September, The Cayman Islands Government Office in the United Kingdom (CIGO-UK) will host the second annual Cayman Day in the UK, a special event in London for Caymanians and friends from across the UK and Europe.

This year’s event will take place at the Snoozebox Canary Wharf Hotel in London. With Caymanian artists and performers preparing to attend, Caymanian Chef Chad Scott preparing Cayman inspired cuisine, along with other Caribbean vendor stalls for the Cayman Day marketplace the excitement for Cayman Day is already rising in the UK.

Cayman Islands Government Representative to the UK, Dr Tasha Ebanks Garcia, commented: “We are very excited about the upcoming Cayman Day in the UK and want to ensure that our Caymanian family, friends and community have a very special time. This is an opportunity for all to come together and enjoy a slice of home, it is also a time for us to meet new students coming across for the first time and to offer them the welcome and overseas support from not only the Cayman Islands Government but of the wider Caymanian community overseas.”

Over 100 Caymanians and friends joined last year’s Cayman Day, and celebrated Caymanians in their endeavours overseas. New students and Caymanians coming to the UK for the first time were welcomed and were also able to connect with other fellow Caymanians who live in the UK. Caymanians who had not been home for many years were able to meet with old friends and enjoy the cultural festivities.

Cayman Connection is facilitating the delivery of the event and encourages those interested to register for tickets if they wish to attend. Interested persons are advised that while tickets are free, they are limited. Performers, artists and market traders are also encouraged to register their interests in joining the Cayman Day festivities on the Cayman Day registration page and can direct all questions to [email protected].

Executive Director of Cayman Connection, Kate Kandiah commented “This event has become an eagerly anticipated occasion in the annual Calendar for Caymanians overseas and we are honoured to be able to assist the CIGO-UK to make it happen. Our members want to stay connected to home, each other, their culture and their Government, and this is a wonderful opportunity to do so, in person. We are also thrilled to be celebrating the inaugural “Making Waves Awards” celebrating the achievements of Caymanians overseas at this special day of Cayman culture and Caymankind.”
