Cayman: DCFS implements changes due to COVID-19

CAYMAN ISLANDS (GIS) – In accordance with the Civil Service’s COVID-19 Continuity of Operations Plan, the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) will implement social distancing protocols and focus on essential services delivery, in the form of child protection and residential care.

All direct contact with clients is temporarily suspended with immediate effect. This includes home and facility visits along with supervised contact. Instead of direct contact, DCFS will maintain contact with clients where possible via telephone, WhatsApp video or Zoom. Staff at the department’s main office at Apollo House East and the Cayman Brac office will work reduced hours in office, on a shift basis, to minimise the number of persons at those locations. The M.A.S.H. office at Anderson Square is now closed to the public.

The DCFS residential homes are now also closed to all visitors. Persons wishing to speak with family members can contact the Golden Age Home at 949-1972, Maple House at 945-2615 and the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre, Cayman Brac at 948-2291.

Although the Department’s offices are closed to the public, clients and partner agencies may contact the DCFS at 949-0290 in Grand Cayman and at 948-2331 in Cayman Brac, or email[email protected]. To report child abuse, please email [email protected] or call 945-0545 or 1-800-534-2273.

DCFS remains committed to its staff and vulnerable clients and will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
