Cayman DG’s 5K Challenge
With only a few days remaining until the 2017 DG’s 5K Challenge, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson is inviting everybody in the Cayman Islands to take part in the event,
The annual walk/run takes place on Cayman Brac on Sunday, 23 April and Grand Cayman on Sunday, 30 April.
Mr. Manderson personally leads the biggest wellness event of the year, which is raising money for the YMCA of the Cayman Islands to build a ropes challenge course designed to help young people in the community
“The event is only days away and I invite everyone to participate,” he said. “It’s open to civil servants, the private sector and members of the public. Bring your family, friends and visitors. Everybody is welcome.”
Registration is online this year to make it easier for participants to sign-up in just a few easy steps at www.caymanactive.com/dg5k.
“We had more than 1,500 people taking part last year and I’d love to see even more this year,” said Mr. Manderson. “We’re raising money for a great cause while putting a focus on health and bringing participants together from all across the Cayman Islands.”
The fund-raising target is $60,000, which the YMCA will use to build the ropes course in Grand Cayman. The facility will provide an alternative to classroom-style learning in areas proven to increase self-esteem, confidence and team-building skills.
It will also provide participants with practical examples of ways to improve communication, awareness of themselves and others, and to gain leadership skills. In addition, the course will allow participants to overcome fears, insecurities, depression, and anti-social behaviour.
“The DG’s 5K Challenge is suitable for people of all fitness levels,” said Mr. Manderson. “Please come out and support us – be a part of the solution to the issues faced by our youth. I challenge you to play your part.”
Registration is $25 for ages 18 and older, and just $10 for 17 and younger. Full details are on www.caymanactive.com/dg5k.
