Cayman: Disaster Preparedness
Earlier this month Derek Haines, CEO of Haines Disaster Consultancy (HDC), spent a morning training in Disaster Management, Business Continuity and a Disaster related Exercise with Gary Callaghan, Managing Director of Barents Re Reinsurance Company and his staff at their Cayman Headquarters in South Sound.
Barents Re is an A rated, niche and specialty global reinsurance company with a background of over 25 years of experience in Europe, Latin & Central America, the Middle East and Asia, having redomiciled head office to the Cayman Islands in 2018 as a Class D licensed company.
Gary said, â€We chose Cayman because it is a world class financial centre with strong compliance laws and security – an optimal jurisdiction for Barents Re to operate in. The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) is our regulatory body here and one of their requirements is that we have a disaster management and business continuity plan. We are also required to conduct disaster training for our staff that includes a disaster exercise. HDC was highly recommended to us and we are very pleased with their products and professionalism.â€
Derek added, â€It has been a pleasure working with Gary and his staff and, with the hurricane season looming, a very opportune time to complete the disaster related training. We all have to remember though, that our threats are not just from storms and HDC includes plans for other possible dangers both on a national scale, and related to individuals.â€
