January 2nd, 2019) The Cayman Heart Fund (CHF) recently received a generous donation from DMS Broadcasting Corporate Cup.

On Saturday, October 12th, the Truman Bodden Sports Complex was the place to be for corporate entities seeking fun and comradery. You see, that was because it was the 6th Annual DMS Broadcasting Corporate Cup. This year, 24 Cayman companies signed up; it was a record number.

For those members of our community who are unfamiliar with this event, the Corporate Cup is a mini Olympics, so to speak. Companies sign up a team to go up against other companies in team building events like Tug Of War, Sack Races, an Obstacle Course, Soccer Kick, Netball, Swimming (at Lion’s Pool), Target shooting (with CISSA), and Climbing at the YMCA Alpine Tower. There are 10 events in all, and every event is hard-fought. Traditionally, each team works hard to be the best, and this year was no different.

At the end of the day, the team with the best overall combined score wins the Corporate Cup and takes possession of the Corporate Cup trophy to display in their office until next year’s event when they have to return it – and then it’s up for grabs once again. This is the achievement that each team strives for. However, along the way, there are other benefits to be had. As mentioned before, it is essentially a team-building event, and nothing forges relationships like going through a challenge side-by-side. Blake Rogers, Operations Manager for DMS Broadcasting, states, “It’s an amazing day with some of Cayman’s most competitive professionals, pitted against rival companies, but also with the best sportsmanship on display! Plus, it all benefits a local charity. For Companies looking for a team-building event, and to give back to the community, it doesn’t get much better than the annual Corporate Cup!”

One point to make is that this event not only serves a purpose for dozens of corporate professionals to blow off steam and challenge each other. It is a fundraiser for a local charity. This year, the featured charity was the Cayman Heart Fund and the event helped raise $7,200 for this worthy cause.

This year Deloitte won the event, with the second-place finisher, Cayman Enterprise City, only one point behind. There was a tie for third place between CUC (last year’s winner) and KPMG. Overall, the competition was close, and there were many examples of great achievements. This was really a great event, organized solely by DMS’ team of eleven individuals.

Dr. Bella Beraha, CHF Vice-Chairperson, said on behalf of the CHF we would like to give thanks to DMS for having chosen us as the recipients of the 2019 Corporate Cup fundraiser funds. These funds will be instrumental for us to be able to fulfil the mission of educating and creating awareness, with the goal of diminishing heart disease in Cayman Islands.
