Cayman: Ebola virus related information NOT Issued by Ministry of Health & Wellness

Hon. Sabrina Turne

The Ministry of Health & Wellness would like to advise the community that information relating to “flight restrictions due to Ebola virus disease outbreak” is false and was not released by the Ministry.

The misinformation, being circulated by email and what’s app social channels, states that the “new Ebola virus” was detected locally in tourists, and as such measures to restrict passengers and airlines would be coming into effect later this month.

“There has been no suspicion, much less confirmation, of the Ebola virus in the Cayman Islands to date,” explains Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nick Gent.

“The Cayman Islands Government has not imposed any new restrictions on the arrivals of passengers to our Islands, and this statement being attributed to me and my Ministry is unequivocally false and misleading,” affirms Hon. Sabrina Turner, Minister for Health & Wellness and Home Affairs.

Dr Gent would like to encourage the community to tune into official channels in an effort to ensure access to accurate and credible information and updates.
