Cayman: First sitting of the 2023/24 Parliament Session
From The Progressives
Parliament starts on Tuesday, September 19th, and the Progressive Opposition has submitted 11 Parliamentary Questions on various topics. We have also submitted five Private Members Motions that address concerns of Caymanians on all three Islands.
The Private Members’ Motions request updates from the Government on the Deloitte national transportation report, district road repairs, the proposed referendum on a national lottery and on marijuana, replenishing the sand on Seven Mile Beach, providing buses for private schools and more. It is important that the Government addresses these questions and provides clear and concise answers to ensure that the public’s needs and concerns are being met.
The Private Members Motions cover affordable housing initiatives, helping Caymanians into employment, legalising the sale of pepper spray for self-defence, financial assistance for older persons, and sister Island Inflation relief. These motions cover issues that are important to Caymanians.
The motions focus the Government’s attention and spending on providing opportunities for Caymanians during the current cost of living crisis as well as considering the needs of the people of Cayman Brac & Little Cayman.
