On Friday morning, 3 December, RCIPS officers in West Bay conducted searches at two addresses in the vicinity of West Church Street, under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Upon the arrival of officers at the first address, two men attempted to evade police and flee from the premises. One of the men was stopped and detained by officers, while the other made good his escape.

Officers conducted a search of the detained man, along with others at the location, and a search of the property. A quantity of suspected ganja was found on another man at the location. 31 small packages and 2 clear packages of suspected ganja were found at the premises, along with lottery ticket books.

One man, age 24 of West Bay, was arrested for resisting arrest, and on suspicion of consumption of ganja. A second man, age 43 of West Bay was arrested on suspicion of possession and consumption of ganja.

Officers attended the second address and conducted searches of the persons present at the location, as well as the premises. One man was found to be in possession of a lottery ticket, and another man was found with records of lottery transactions as well as a quantity of cash. A quantity of suspected ganja was also found at the premises.

Two men ages 50 and 59 of West Bay were arrested on suspicion of illegal gambling. Another man, age 51 of George Town was also arrested on suspicion of threats to kill in relation to a previous incident.

The matter is currently under investigation. The arrested persons were transported to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre and have subsequently been granted bail as investigations continue.
