Cayman Flood Risk Alert for Low-Lying Areas Due to Hurricane Beryl

Grand Cayman, 03 July 2024: Due to the approach of Hurricane Beryl, there is a heightened risk of severe flooding in low-lying areas. All residents in flood-prone areas are strongly urged to take immediate precautions to ensure their safety.

Hazard Management Cayman Islands has identified the following communities as high-risk areas. This is due to the grounds still being saturated resulting from the amount of rainfall that the island has received during the month of June.George Town

  • Randkye Gardens
  • Windsor Park
  • Washington Blvd.
  • Tropical Gardens
  • Areas in the Prospect Community

Bodden Town

  • Belford Estates
  • Cumber Ave.

Key Actions to Take:

  1. Know Your Risk: If living in one of the above areas, you are at risk.
  2. Secure Your Home: Use sandbags on entryways and tarpaulins on roofs to prevent water from coming in. Move valuables to higher levels, unplug electrical appliances, and shut off utilities if instructed to do so by service providers.
  3. Make a Plan: Identify higher ground where you can seek shelter, whether it be with family, friends, or at an open emergency shelter.
  4. Prepare an Emergency Kit: Include essential items such as medications, important documents, water, non-perishable food, flashlights, batteries, and personal hygiene products.
  5. Avoid Driving in Flooded Areas: Know your route and avoid flood-prone areas. Creating current can affect homes and your vehicle.

Please act swiftly and responsibly to protect yourself and your loved ones. For more information and updates on Hurricane Beryl, stay tuned to www.caymanprepared.ky and tune in to Radio Cayman 89.9 FM.
