Cayman: Glass Recycling Suspended
Grand Cayman, November 7, 2022 – The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) wishes to advise the public that glass will no longer be accepted in any of its recycling depots following our stakeholder’s decision to discontinue the processing of this material.
“We collect the glass deposited in our depots by residents and transported this material to our stakeholder’s glass crushing facility. Over the years we have worked in partnership with DART in the processing of glass for recycling. We want to express our gratitude to this stakeholder as we seek alternative arrangements to the recycling of glass. The DEH currently doesn’t have the facilities to carry out this processing, explained the DEH Director, Mr. Richard Simms.
As a result, the DEH recycling program will no longer accept glass for recycling. Glass will have to be disposed of instead of crushed for reuse. The public is advised to incorporate these materials in their regular garbage for collection until further notice.
