Cayman: High School Football returns

High School Football returns

The young ladies from Cayman Prep (teal and white) defeated Cayman International School in 2020 to take the Dart Under 13 girl’s title

After a year’s absence, the Cayman Youth Football Leagues (CYFL) is pleased to announce the return of the 2022 Dart Under 13 and Appleby Under 18 boys’ and girls’ high school football leagues.

On Wednesday, September 14, the Dart Under 13 girls’ league will kick-off the 2022 season with the Dart Under 13 boys’ league commencing the day after on Thursday, September 15. The leagues will continue on Wednesdays and Thursdays until the mid-term break in October at venues across the Island including the Annex Field, CIFA Field, Camana Bay Sports Complex, St. Ignatius Catholic Field and the Clifton Hunter High School Field. Start times are between 3:45 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Schools participating in the Dart Under 13 leagues include John Gray High School, Clifton Hunter High School, Triple C, St. Ignatius Catholic High School, Cayman Prep & High School, Cayman Academy and Cayman International School.

Defending Under 13 girls’ champions Cayman Prep & High School are seeking a repeat as they defeated Cayman International School 4-3 in sudden death penalties in an exciting finale to win the league in 2020. Both schools finished tied on points but agreed to play an extra game to decide the championship. The young ladies from St. Ignatius Catholic High School finished in third place.

On the boys’ side, Cayman International School captured the 2020 title winning six of their seven games while suffering only one defeat at the hands of rivals Cayman Prep, who finished in third place behind runners-up John Gray High School.

Following the mid-term break, the Appleby Under 18 boys’ and girls’ leagues will commence and continue until the first week in December. These games will also be played on Wednesdays for the girls and Thursdays for the boys.

The CYFL, a registered non-profit organisation, was officially formed in 2019 to organise and administer the primary and high school football leagues. The organisation’s goal is to ensure that students from ages six to 18 have well-organised inter-school football leagues to participate in. The hallmarks of the leagues are inclusiveness, fair play and school pride.
