Cayman: Increased Mosquito Activity Expected by October Due to Recent High Tides

Increased Mosquito Activity Expected by October Due to Recent High Tides
Residents can expect intensified mosquito control operations across Grand Cayman.

GRAND CAYMAN, Cayman Islands (19 Sep. 2024) – The Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) is advising the public to prepare for a potential increase in mosquito activity by early October. This predicted increase in mosquito numbers is due to localized flooding of low-lying areas caused by recent high tides, which has created ideal conditions for mosquito breeding.

Our Disease Prevention Officers have already detected mosquito larvae in these affected areas, and despite the MRCU’s proactive larviciding efforts, we anticipate a rise in mosquito populations over the coming weeks. While some environmental factors are beyond our control, the MRCU team is taking science-based measures to reduce mosquito numbers as quickly as possible. Residents can expect intensified mosquito control operations across Grand Cayman.

We encourage all residents to stay informed by following our official WhatsApp Channel https://www.whatsapp.com/channel/0029Vajvr1MCXC3QGFJu1R12, as well as our Facebook https://www.facebook.com/MRCU.Cayman/ and LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/company/cayman-islands-mosquito-research-and-control-unit pages, where additional information and specific details on control operations will be shared.
