Cayman: Inmate passes at Northward Prison
CAYMAN ISLANDS (GIS) – Officials with Her Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service have confirmed the passing of an inmate on Wednesday evening (18 December 2019) at the Northward prison compound.
The prisoner, Durney Ebanks, was found laying unresponsive on his bed by two prison officers. The officers applied lifesaving measures prior to the arrival of emergency medical technicians (EMTs) several minutes later.
An ambulance transported the inmate to the Cayman Islands Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Per established protocol when there is a death in custody, the RCIPS has confirmed that an inquiry is ongoing, but at this time no foul play is suspected.
