Cayman: Inter-agency Day of Action in West Bay Results in Four Arrests and Recovery of Ganja

From RCIPS
On Wednesday 26 March, West Bay police officers and members of the RCIPS Community Policing Unit, together with partner agencies Customs and Border Control (CBC), Public Lands Commission (PLC) and Department of Agriculture (DoA), carried out an interagency Day of Action operation in West Bay District.
The day commenced with officers attending the John A Cumber Primary School to assist RCIPS Community Safety Officer Cindi Welcome, with serving breakfast to the students. This was a great opportunity for the young people to meet and get to know their local police officers.
Officers then carried out a number of wanted person searches across the district which resulted in the arrest of two men, a 21-year-old of West Bay, on Suspicion of Theft, and a 27-year-old of West Bay for Obtaining Property by Deception. During one of the searches at a residential address, officers identified what appeared to be a Ganja plant that was recovered for disposal. As a result of search activities, two additional men were arrested the following day, Thursday 27 March. These persons are a 36-year old of West Bay, arrested for Default of Payment, and a 43-year-old of West Bay for Failure to Appear.
Also during the Day of Action, officers attended Seven Mile Public Beach, where CBC officers with K9 support carried out an extensive search of the area, which lead to the discovery of a quantity of Ganja prepared for sale, hidden under a bin, which was recovered by police for forensic analysis.
Concurrently, a traffic operation at Batabano Road and Esterly Tibbets Highway resulted in four tickets issued for various driving offences, while officers patrolled hot spot areas within the community, known for criminal activity providing police visibility and meeting with community members.
West Bay Police officers thank the community for their support and feedback received during the Day of Action, and encourage persons to get in touch with local officers if they have any concerns regarding criminal activity that they would like to discuss or report.
