Cayman: International Women’s Day Message from Premier Wayne Panton
Grand Cayman, Wednesday, 8 March 2023
As we mark International Women’s Day, I wish to extend my warmest greetings and recognition to all the incredible women who have made tremendous contributions to our islands, our communities, and our world. Those contributions stretch the width and breadth of the social experience in our islands, and today we honour all of them, big and small.
Nearly 70 years ago, courageous Caymanian women took a stand for the cause of the right to vote for all women. We honour those eventually 358 women for their determination to achieve such a basic right of equality for women in our country.
Today, in respect of all women, we celebrate your strength, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to making a difference.
I am humbled to note that we have recently published a draft Sexual Harassment Bill which will provide greater protection for women in the workplace. This is legislation that is long overdue. I look forward to passing this crucial legislation as a step towards ensuring that all women can live and work without fear of harassment or discrimination.
I want to thank all the women who have tirelessly advocated for these important changes and who continue to lead the charge for gender equity.
On this International Women’s Day, let us recommit to supporting and empowering women everywhere, and to creating a world where every woman can thrive.
