Cayman: Island Heritage announces Educational Grant Recipient
Grand Cayman, 24 August 2022– Island Heritage Insurance Company, Ltd. (“Island Heritage” or “the Company”) announced today that it has awarded its 2022 Educational Grant to Lysenia Elliott.
Lysenia is in her first year at University of South Florida where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Animal Biology. Her ultimate goal is to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
Island Heritage’s Educational Grant Committee was impressed by the caliber of the applicants this year. It was Lysenia’s drive and dedication to succeed that stood out to the panel.
Caroline Mills-White, EVP Group Head of P&C, said: “It is always a difficult task to have to select one recipient from an excellent field, and it is great to see so much potential in our young people. Lysenia’s determination and commitment stood out and she is to be congratulated for her success.”
Lysenia has always enjoyed taking care of animals and found inspiration to make her career choice in the quote from writer Mark Twain: “ Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Commenting on her selection as the 2022 Educational Grant recipient, Lysenia said, “I would like to thank Island Heritage for investing in my future. As I further my education overseas towards becoming a veterinarian, I hope to be a positive representation of how this grant can impact the lives of students. With this in mind, I hope to make the Island Heritage team and the Cayman Islands proud.”
Established in 2017, the educational grant was increased to US$10,000 last year to commemorate Island Heritage’s 25th Anniversary. The criteria for selection includes academic excellence, demonstrated leadership experience and community engagement and service. The recipient is selected by a committee of Island Heritage staff members.
