Cayman Islands: 18kg of cocaine recovered in North Side, disposed of Tue, 6 March
Shortly after 4:00PM on Saturday, 3 March, officers of the Air Operations Unit, while conducting border patrols in the police helicopter along the coastline of North Side, spotted a suspicious package at the water’s edge. The helicopter hovered and a crew member deplaned to retrieve the package, which was later confirmed to contain several packets of cocaine.
The estimated weight of all the packages was 18 kilograms, with an estimated minimum value of $216,000 CI. Markings on the packages suggest that they were being trafficked internationally.
This morning, 6 March, the drugs were destroyed. A picture of the drugs just prior to their destruction is attached.
